Stay: Casa da Luzi

Vals, Switzerland

As the Travel and Lifestyle Editor of the now-shuttered Cookie magazine, Yolanda Edwards always manages to find that effortlessly cool, under-the-radar spot with loads of charm and character. Case in point: During her latest trip, while on assignment in Switzerland and Austria for Travel & Leisure, she and her family were tipped off to a small restaurant with four spare, modern guest rooms above. “In the middle of nowhere in the Alps, close to Vals, opened by a former hot-shot Swiss chef, Beat, who moved to the country to get away from traffic and noise,” says Yolanda. It looks like the kind of place you can while away an entire afternoon eating.

Apparently, there’s no menu. “He just offered us deer liver (his friend had gone hunting the day before) and the most delicious rosti (like hash browns but better—more butter!)… wild mushrooms… and a lovely soup.”

Look for her upcoming project, Momfilter—a new lifestyle site she’s working on with former Cookie Editor Pilar Guzman. And for more travel adventures from Yolanda, her blog: Travels with Clara.
