Check In: Vorstadt 14

Zug, Switzerland
12.08.2010 | by: Kelly

Originally a private residence, this 15th-century house was recently renovated and organized into three disparate areas called Face (first floor), Brain (second floor) and Soul (penthouse). Face is spare and non-descript, acting kind of like a for-rent art and design gallery space. The second floor, modeled after a hotel room, is super slick and contemporary. But the penthouse—a spacious, one-bedroom apartment—feels like an entirely different design universe. There’s wood everywhere, and rustic-meets-modern charm oozes from wide floorboards, exposed beams and stacks of raw firewood climbing up the wall. An artfully haphazard mound of books doubles as storied décor, and a (unloaded) rifle hangs from a nearby hook.

The Details
The penthouse at Vorstadt 14 sleeps four. There’s a little kitchenette, but guests who don’t want to cook can order sushi and strudel from the nearby restaurant Blinker.
